I have very important news to share with you. The verb form of adult – “Adulting” is officially listed by Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Sadly, my spell check still hasn’t got with the times. What’s even more intriguing is that the page cites the first known use of adult as a verb coming from 1978, though it didn’t really start to take over until it became popular on Twitter around a decade ago. People sure do love to have a lot of hot takes on the word (a 2017 piece in The Washington Post called it “sexist.” Not sure how you get there, but it’s fun to have opinions.)

For me, I just think it’s funny. Truly coming of age is tough, especially when the world is kind of on fire like it is right now. I think we’re entitled to express our grievances with this whole adulting enterprise if we feel like it.
