You ever wonder what it’s going to be like to try to explain memes to your grand kids? Or how confusing it’s going to be to have them explain THEIR memes (or meme-like equivalent) to you? Honestly the hilarity of that conversation is what keeps me going a lot of days. I picture myself in a hovering chair parsing out what is and isn’t “loss” while my grandson X Æ A-Xii giggles manically at some hologram of a grape or something. We truly have such a wondrous future ahead.

Here are 10 memes of the moment that will be very confusing in the future.

10. We’re all going to have died

Does anybody even remember the world was supposed to end in 2012?

9. Meta-work

The hardest working man in memedom.

8. Absolute classic

This one will be confusing because there will no longer be parties.

7. It’s right behind you

Hopefully we’re living in the final days of buffering.

6. More than meets the eye

Once upon a time, there was an evil genius named Michael Bay…

5. Steering feels

When all cars are self-driving, will dogs take themselves to the park?

4. Learning is in the air

Enjoy your trip in the big metal frozen tube, children.

3. Abomination

I’m corn-fused.

2. Put it on my tab

Does man’s greed know no bounds?

1. Wave goodbye

This one will likely stay relevant. Minecraft is forever.

Maybe print these out and put them in a photo album for posterity, just to be extra confusing.

What do you think is going to be the hardest thing to explain to future generations?
