No doubt about it: life is tough. You’re presented with challenges around every corner and you have to be tough and have a good head on your shoulders to make solid decisions to keep your life moving in the right direction.
We all need a kick in the ass once in a while, so hopefully these pieces of tough life advice from AskReddit users will get you inspired.
Good luck out there!
1. Very true.
“The world doesn’t owe you anything you have to work for everything.”
2. Which one will you feed?
“An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, and inferiority.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, contentment, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, and compassion.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one that I feed.””
3. This is good.
“If you aren’t happy and content on your own you shouldn’t get in a serious relationship. They can’t fill whatever void you have and you’re likely using them to do just that. A person is not there to compete you, they’re the icing on the cake. If you cover a sh^tty cake in great icing it’s still a sh^tty cake, but a great cake with no icing can still be tasty.
And a cake made entirely of icing is especially disgusting, and that’s what your life will be if your whole being revolves around and is wrapped up in another person and the relationship.
No one wants to be with someone dependent on them, whether it’s financially or emotionally. Even if they do it’s called a codependent relationship and they are almost never healthy.
If you’re lonely and bored being partnered to someone isn’t the only way to fix this. But if you have your life together and it’s fulfilling then a relationship just makes it that much better. A partner should be seen as a crowning achievement, not the foundation.”
4. Not fair.
“Life is unfair. Some people have it way better than you – born with a silver spoon in their mouth, more intelligent, stronger, or better looking.
You probably will have to work a lot harder than someone else born with these advantages. So, be smarter with your money, save, and don’t buy expensive things. Study more and ask questions and talk to your teachers if you don’t get it the first time around. Ask for help, make friends, and don’t try to do everything yourself.”
5. Simple, yet effective.
“Get plenty of sleep. Drink water.”
6. That’s a bad sign.
“If you feel like you need to go through your lover’s phone, it’s over. Leave. Hurt. Grow up. Try again.”
7. You gotta be tough.
“Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.
Said to me by my football coach after a rough season.
Still one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received.”
8. F*ke it ’til you make it.
“Do everything new like you’ve done it twice.
Confidence equals success– or, hopefully, passable bullsh^t.”
9. Won’t do you any good.
“Wallowing in your own self-pity gets you nowhere.
No matter how tough times get, the path to a better situation always starts in your own head.”
10. Leave it in the past.
“Only a fool trips on what’s behind him.”
11. ALWAYS.
“No matter how good you think you are at something, there’s someone out there who can wipe the floor with you.”
12. You have options.
“If you do not like a situation, you do have the option of leaving. There will be consequences, some bigger than others, but it is a valid option. I’ve posted this on similar thread before to mixed responses but it is true.
If you don’t like your job and it’s making you miserable and depressed, then find a new job. Leave the situation. I know that is easier said than done, but it is possible. You might have to move to a new location or work in a different field, but you can do it. Toxic relationship? You can leave that too. Again I’m saying the consequences might be huge (kids and/or finances and living situations or whatnot) but it is ALWAYS any option.”
13. Survival.
“Life sucks, it will hit you in the face multiple times in your life. Just hope you have family and friends that help you get back up.
This world can easily break people, mentally and physically it is a cruel place where you need to just learn how to survive.”
14. Stand your ground.
“People will always judge you and always have an opinion.
Learn to focus only on people that directly control your future (employers, significant other, family) and ignore the rest.
Stand your ground and don’t take sh^t from anyone.”
15. Choose wisely.
“You don’t have a “destiny,” you have decisions to make.
So make your decisions, and then deal with the consequences of them.
This is true when it comes to everything: love and relationships, finances, careers, etc.”
So… did you take any of this to heart? Because there’s some VERY good advice in their.
