One of the things that makes a television series successful is a cast of characters that are easy to root for, who make you laugh, or who are working toward a common goal that we can get behind,

Similarly, throwing one single character into the bunch who does absolutely none of the above can almost make a series impossible to enjoy any longer.

And we think that’s exactly what these 17 characters (nearly) did.

17. April Rhodes (Glee)

Thank goodness she never joined the cast permanently and there are only ruined episodes here and there.

16. Rachel Berry (Glee)

The entire show was centered around a character that was nearly impossible to stomach, nevermind like.

15. Grace Adler (Will & Grace)

If the same Grace is returning, I won’t be checking out the reboot.

14. Trish Walker (Jessica Jones)

A bully with an inferiority complex who somehow earned powers. Blech.

13. Mon-El (Supergirl)

A former slave owner had no right to replace James as Kara’s love interest. No one is having it.

12. Andy Bernard (The Office)

He got more and more cringe-y as time went on, don’t you think?

11. Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

Unpopular opinon time: Rory Gilmore was self-centered and rude, and after she and Logan became a thing, she was downright insufferable.

10. Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)

The other characters on this manage to make up for its whiny, needy narrator, but just barely.

9. Brandon Foster (The Fosters)

A character can only make so many bonehead decisions before you just write them off as dumb.

8. Oliver Trask (The O.C.)

Another storyline that never should have been – and a show that would have been better off without it.

7. Dawn Summers (Buffy and the Vampire Slayer)

I know, I know, she was just a “normal” little sister and teenaged girl, but who wants to invite that into your house voluntarily every single week?

6. Lindsey Strauss (One Tree Hill)

Just skip her season like it never existed, and you’ll be the better for it.

5. Kate and Kevin Pearson (This Is Us)

Their awesome dad wouldn’t even like them because they only think about themselves. Yeah, I said it.

4. Piper Chapman (Orange is the New Black)

Another show that only worked because the supporting cast was awesome enough to make up for a hard-to-like lead.

3. Eugene Porter (The Walking Dead)

I can’t believe anyone as whiny and not self-sufficient could have possibly survived so long in the apocalypse.

2. Castiel (Supernatural)

We prefer to follow the two brothers, full stop.

1. Jenny Humphrey (Gossip Girl)

I made lifelong friends on #IHateJennyHumphrey because everyone agreed she was the worst.

I might even argue that some of these might have ruined the series for some.

Are characters you hate on this list? Do they make that big of a difference for you?
