The Mayo Clinic defines PTSD like this:
“Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.”
It’s one of those things that on some level, we’ve always understood, but have only more recently come to identify and try to deal with specifically. Because the truth is that some trauma can stick with you your entire life, and wreak havoc with things like your relationships, as these anonymous stories confirm.

Going through life just afraid that the next shoe is constantly about to drop.
8. “Just doesn’t always feel happy”
That’s the enormous damage this causes.
7. “My boyfriend gets frustrated”
I think that’s a fair assessment.
6. “It’s really constantly”
Staying medicated is a way of life for some people.
5. “It breaks my heart”
To lose such a part of yourself must be horrifying.
4. “I hate when people sneak up on me”
Girl, same.
3. “It’s all I think about”
Intentional or not, it can really throw things off.
2. “Not fun”
I’d guess that’s an understatement.
1. “I’ve given him permission”
“I don’t want him to leave me”
