10 Screenshots Of Wrong Number Text Messages That Escalated

Image: me.me

Phones are a weird liability. I was in high school when I got my first phone. It was an adventure. Back when you actually paid per text I accidentally racked up $100 bill . My mom was not happy.

But the weirdest early-phone memory happened very late one Wednesday night. It was maybe 2:30 in the morning when my new phone started ringing. It was loud enough to bring me just barely out of an unusually deep sleep, the kind of half-awake state where nothing’s quite real.

“Hello?” I slurred.

“Where are you?” came a very angry and worried voice from the other end.

“…in bed?” I said.

“This is my daughter’s phone.” she hissed.

Clearly a wrong number. I should explain. But I’ve only got 2 working brain cells at the moment, so all I can manage is “…can’t help you there.”

She hangs up.

To this day I wonder how weird and confusing that eventual mother-daughter conversation was.

But enough about me… let’s all check out some other wrong number exchanges, and marvel at the possibilities of the stories behind them.

Honestly, I don’t know how many of those are real, but I don’t care, because they’re damn good modern literature.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to text “I’m bringing chili” to random numbers so someone else can have a good story.
