Snow Bear’s Creator Finally Explains How They Made the Belly Button

You know the drill.

You wake up on yet another snowy day wondering which scarf to cocoon yourself in… and then all of a sudden you realize that you need to draw a snow bear.

It happens. Best part is, you don’t have to be Leonardo da Vinci do trace the outline of a bear with your feet, and you’ll have a great photo for Facebook or Twitter or Instagram as soon as you’re done.

But what about when it comes time to make the belly button, and you realize you can’t reach the middle of the bear? What then?

WHAT DO YOU DO THEN?

Well, I’ll tell you what do then. Because after weeks of watching this debate, I finally found the definitive answer. But before I give it away, I’m going to make you wait…

…so I can show you all the theories the Internet proposed before Snow Bear’s creator finally came forward and ended it all.

These are the most popular theories I found:

#1. They jumped.

Snow Bear has got to be at least 12 feet wide. Possible? Sure. But also highly unlikely that some rando who wanted to draw a bear in the snow was also skilled at long jumping and uber determined to give it a navel.

#2. They used a tool.

Leave it to a Canadian to bring up hockey right out of the gate.

#3. The bear came second.

Laura wasn’t the only one having a chicken-vs-egg moment. The French Canadians seemed to enjoy this theory as well…

See what I mean?

A ridiculous theory, however, because bears never come second. Because bears always come first. Because bears are good at reminding us to prevent forest fires.

#4. Drones!!!

THIS GUY JUST KNEW IT HAD TO BE A DRONE – NO QUESTION!!! HE KNOWS IT HAS TO BE A DRONE!!!

He’s wrong.

#5. Aliens

I wish I could say the only reason I put this here was because of my favorite meme, but…

#6. They recruited help from animals…

I know. Shhhh… I know. It’s a ridiculous suggestion. But it happened, see?

But finally, after all the smoke had cleared, and the rubble had been swept away… CBC’s Kate McKenna tracked down Snow Bear’s creator and found the answer.

And that answer, ladies and gents is…

#7. SNOWBALLS

I knew it!!! Actually it’s true though, ball$ were the very first thing I thought of.

Let me rephrase that.

At first, I thought someone tossed a ball in the center to make the dents. Then my brain tried to over-complicate the entire scenario for a second or two, building contraptions and tying things to strings to get the ball back out again, before finally realizing that yes, obviously, you should use snowball$ because they will eventually melt away.

And that’s exactly what Valérie Duhamel, the creator of Snow Bear, says she did.

“Yes, it was five snowball$ thrown in the same place. And I never would have thought my bear would be all over the media.”

Better think again, Valérie.

BETTER THINK AGAIN.
