The Comment Section on This Post Turns the Tables on Rape Culture

It all started with the man whining about a date. Well, not so much a date as a pickup.

According to @SydneyShyanneS, this is what happened:

Of course, this is hilarious on its own (though clearly illegal). Things got interesting, though, when bit*h Code picked up the tweet and posted it on their Facebook page.

People started weighing in on the tweet, but not in the way you might expect. They turn the tweet on its head, making comments using the same responses people often hear when reporting rape or sexual assault.

For example:

Obviously, this addresses the sl*t-shaming many women experience when they report rape or sexual assault.

This comment takes on false accusations:

*cough cough*

Or this one, based on a former US Congressman’s comment about “legitimate rape:”

And this one, which takes on victim-blaming:

As amusing as the comments are, it’s important to remember that they stem from what people have actually heard when reporting, or even talking about, sexual violence.

We can do better.
