Most of us think driving a car for 10 or 15 years is a long time, but that’s nothing compared to a woman named Grace Braeger who has been driving the same ’57 Chevy she bought on October 15, 1957 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
That was over 60 years ago, by the way.
Braeger purchased the car for $2,500 plus a trade-in of her 1950 Chevy. She calls her sweet ride “57 Lady” and even has a personalized license plate.
The Chevy had 4,239 miles on it when Braeger purchased it and it passed the 122,000-mile mark in late 2018. She said, “I just never saw a need for another car.” The transmission has been replaced on her ’57, but almost everything else is still original, including the power steering, V-8 engine, and colorful dashboard and interior.
Braeger also said she had the floorboards replaced back in 1987 because she could see right through them. She still drives her beloved Chevy to the grocery store and to appointments, but she parks “57 Lady” in a garage during harsh Wisconsin winters to protect it and she won’t drive it in the rain.
Here’s a video of Grace Braeger cruising around in her classic ride.
As of now, Braeger is still waiting to sell the car to the perfect new owner. She even turned down one person because they wanted to store the ’57 in a barn. Braeger refused.
Now that is a feel-good story that everyone out there can enjoy.
