If you own a cat, you probably know that felines are obligate carnivores – that means they have to eat meat in order to thrive and live healthy lives. Unlike humans and even dogs, who can replace meat proteins with other kinds of nutrients and remain healthy, cats don’t have an option.
This vegan couple realized that, and even though they have both made the decision not to eat meat, have always fed their beloved cat regular kibble and wet food that contains meat.
When the cat began to struggle because of issues with her teeth, the vet recommended they feed her whole chicken parts in order to entice her to the bowl.
That’s when the trouble started, as their vegan friends (and maybe non-vegan friends looking to stir up trouble) began to see animal parts in their fridge and asked questions.
The owners didn’t see the issue, as they weren’t eating the parts and they were using parts from already slaughtered chickens that would have been tossed, otherwise.
Almost everyone assured them they were not being a**holes.
They are being good pet owners, and in fact animal lovers, by feeding their cat what she needs to thrive.
So, there you go.
Everyone is glad to see that they’ve done their research and spoken to their vet, because yes, cats must eat meat.
Even if you’ve chosen a vegan lifestyle, please know that you cannot force it on your cat.
The end.
