According to brides.com (and it seems like they would know, right?) the average couple today is together for about 2-5 years before getting engaged to be married.
And, yanno, that seems about right.

That’s about as long as William Henry Harrison was President.
3. 3 weeks
According to traditional wisdom, that’s how long it takes to break a habit.
2. 2 weeks
That’s about the time it takes for a vaccination to become effective in your body.
That’s about the time it takes for you to read this sentence?
